The Dynamic Seat

How it works

How it works

Dynamic Seating

Being seated at a desk is not passive – it’s active. Students move forward to write, lean back to relax or listen, and (quite rarely) sit up straight. Static seating doesn’t provide for this, so to compensate, students lean forward on the front legs or back on the back legs of their chairs.

It is not about creating a chair where students can't tip onto the back legs, we have made a system that supports how students work so they don't want to. This document will provide more detail. (1 MB - download)

Bodyfurn System chairs move dynamically with the user, with independently moving seat and back. Whether they are leaning forward to work or lean back to contemplate the students are supported. This ability to move seamlessly promotes good blood flow and therefore reduces blood pressure and heart rates, which leads to calmer, quieter classrooms.

Moving forward

The dynamic seat moves with the student – the chair will not tip

The seat provides a larger surface area for a comfortable, pressure free platform

Leaning back

The independently pivoting seat and back allows students to recline in comfort with no pressure points

The Bodyfurn chair allows movement but is stable – it will not rock back

Correct Height Desk and Chair

A correctly sized chair allows students to place feet squarely on the floor. Blood flows normally and students are able to concentrate

Students seated at a desk and chair fitted to their size, will be comfortable for long periods of time and won’t adopt ergonomically incorrect postures

The relationship between desk and chair height is very important for comfort and back health. Seated at a correctly fitted desk and chair, arms and shoulders are relaxed. Concentration levels will increase and handwriting quality immediately improves

Side Desk Storage System

Side storage allows materials to be safely stored to the side of the desk and they can be easily relocated when students move desks

Easy Access and Space Saving

The legs of the desk are offset to the rear of the frame and the chair has no front legs, providing a clear path for students to get in and out. There is less disruption and rooms are quieter

Bodyfurn provides larger work surfaces without the need for bigger classrooms. Even with a larger desk top, the overall space required is less than that for traditional desks and chairs

Easily stored on the desk, the chair is safe and stable allowing easy access for cleaning

Height System

Too often tall and short students are asked to sit at the same size chairs and desks even though there is a foot or more in height difference between them. These students will all be focusing on their discomfort instead of learning.

The Bodyfurn®  height chart system helps determine the correct desk and chair for students. Using our research, Furnware can recommend the most appropriate and economical configuration based on an average of student sizes - allowing for any particularly tall or small students. The chairs and desks have corresponding colour dots so that the ideal configuration is achieved.

A correctly sized chair allows students to place their feet squarely on the floor so circulation is uninhibited, meaning greater comfort and concentration.

It is not about creating a chair where students can't tip onto the back legs, we have made a system that supports how students work so they don't want to.
